Discover the five sacred alpine lakes of Panch Pokhari in Sindhupalchok, northeast of Kathmandu. This six-day guided trekking itinerary follows a scenic road journey to Chhimti, then climbs through forested slopes and open ridges via Tuppi Danda and Nasimpati to the lakes at approximately 4,100 metres. Enjoy peaceful mountain scenery, glimpses of the Jugal Himal, and the spiritual atmosphere of a pilgrimage destination especially significant around Janai Purnima. The itinerary includes an extra day at Nasimpati for rest and altitude adjustment. Expect steep trails, basic accommodation, limited facilities and changeable mountain weather. Route
Kathmandu to Chhimti; trek to Tuppi Danda → Tuppi Danda to Nasimpati → Rest and altitude-adjustment day at Nasimpati → Visit Panch Pokhari lakes; return to Nasimpati → Descend from Nasimpati to Tuppi Danda → Tuppi Danda to Chhimti; drive to Kathmandu
Leave Kathmandu by road for the Sindhupalchok hills and the trailhead near Chhimti (around 1,800–1,850 m). Depending on road conditions, allow roughly 5–7 hours of driving. Begin the uphill walk to Tuppi Danda (around 2,300 m), approximately 2–3 hours. Settle into basic overnight accommodation and meet the trekking team.
Ascend steep forest paths and mountain ridges toward Nasimpati (approximately 3,600–3,700 m). Allow around 6–8 hours with breaks. The climb is substantial, so maintain a deliberately slow pace and watch for altitude symptoms. Overnight in simple accommodation or a pre-arranged camp.
