"Dal Bhat Power, 24 Hour!"
Food in Nepal is deeply influenced by its neighbors, India and Tibet, but it retains a unique identity driven by the diverse ethnic groups and extreme geography.
The Staples
- Dal Bhat: The national dish. A platter of lentil soup (dal), rice (bhat), vegetable curry (tarkari), and spicy pickles (achar). Locals eat this twice a day, every day.
- Momo: Steamed or fried dumplings filled with minced meat (usually buffalo or chicken) or vegetables, served with a spicy tomato-based dipping sauce.
Newari Delicacies (Kathmandu Valley)
- A savory lentil pancake, often topped with an egg or minced meat.
